Have you ever had to legally fight for your name? Miami Ashlee has… AND she won!
Ashlee, better know to the nail world as Miami Ashlee, has been slaying the hands in Florida for years. She elevated her brand in 2020 by introduction of NeatNailsAlways. The collection of products include gel polishes, acrylic powders, and much more! I was able to snag Miss Miami Ashlee for a quick interview. Here’s what she had to share when it came to fighting for her business name.
When you started your business, what was one of the hardest things you had to overcome first?
One of the Hardest things that I had to overcome was trademarking. My business name and logo. Having to prove that your business was elite. I went into litigation over a portion of my business name and didn’t realize how powerful it was until I was really fighting for it. I had to leave it up to the United States trademark and patent office to make the final decision. I was granted full trademark of my business.
When you overcame that, what does it teach you about yourself?
When I overcome difficult things it teaches me that I have reached a new level of understanding. My capabilities have now expanded and it just adds to my résumé of things accomplished in my learning goals.
How has being black helped you in your business?
I try to keep colorism out of my artistic skills and talents. However, me being black has allowed me to be an example for upcoming beauty professionals especially pertaining to the nail industry. It motivates young black girls to see that we can be successful in whatever we put our minds to.
What do you feel sets you apart from other businesses in your category?
I believe one thing that sets me apart from other businesses in my category is that I am not afraid to speak up. No matter the cost.
What’s the one piece of business advice that has helped you the most?
No matter what anyone tells you do your own research.
What’s one of your wildest business dreams?
My wildest dream is to reach 1 million in sales.
